Prof Manjit Matharu


Professor Manjit Matharu is a Professor of Neurology at University College London (UCL) Queen Square Institute of Neurology and Consultant Neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. He is the Academic and Clinical Lead of the Headache and Facial Pain Group. Professor Matharu’s major clinical and research interests include spontaneous intracranial hypotension, trigeminal autonomic cephalgia, cranial neuralgias and other facial pain disorders, functional and structural imaging in primary and secondary headache disorders and neurostimulation for intractable headaches. He has authored numerous scientific papers and was awarded a PhD for his work on functional and structural neuroimaging in primary headache syndromes.

Dr Salwa Kamourieh


Dr. Salwa Kamourieh is a Consultant Neurologist at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London, UK. She works as part of the Headache and Facial Pain Group. Dr. Kamourieh trained at Imperial College, London and undertook her General Medical and Specialist Training in Northwest London. She completed MRCP in 2010 and a PhD from Imperial College, London in 2016.  During her training, Dr. Kamourieh developed an interest in headache disorders. Her specialist areas are primary refractory headaches (chronic migraine, vestibular migraine and trigeminal autonomic cephalagias) with a specific interest in neurostimulation for intractable headache disorders. Dr. Kamourieh has authored several scientific papers, contributed to book chapters and has been an invited speaker at national medical conferences and teaching courses.

Dr Timothy Yates


Dr Tim Yates is a Consultant Neurologist in the Headache & Facial Pain Group at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, having been appointed in 2021. After qualifying with distinction from Cambridge in 2009, Tim trained at Addenbrooke’s and then in London, with higher clinical and academic training in Neurology, and its subspecialties, at Queen Square and the Royal Free. He gained his PhD from Cambridge. Early in training, he developed an interest in the management of refractory headache disorders, particularly chronic migraine, the trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias, and facial pain syndromes. Tim co-authors the regional headache guidance, provides independent clinical advice to NICE Technology Appraisals of new headache treatments, supports the Headache Academy and Queen Square Neurology MSc postgraduate teaching courses, and works on health data to improve outcomes. He has contributed to scientific papers and book chapters and spoken at international headache meetings.

Dr Indran Davagnanam


Dr Davagnanam was fellowship trained on the Pan-London Neuroradiology fellowship between 2006-2008. He has been a consultant neuroradiologist at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery and Moorfields Eye Hospital since 2008. His clinical expertise involves providing opinions in diagnostic imaging and performing specialist diagnostic procedures for neurological, neuro-vascular, spinal neuro-ophthalmological and orbital conditions. He has a particular interest in stroke, CSF disorders, headache, disease of the spine and ophthalmic disorders.


He has written chapters on his areas of specialist interest in five medical reference textbooks and contributed to Royal College guidelines. He is a council member of the Clinical Neurosciences Section of the Royal Society of Medicine, as well as a member of the British Society of Neuroradiologists, Royal College of Radiologists, International Society for Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Medicine and UK Neuro-Ophthalmology Specialist Interest Group.


He has published over 70 articles in scientific peer-reviewed journals, including original articles in high impact clinical neurosciences journals, and has been invited nationally and internationally to lecture on specialised areas of neuroimaging.

He is a committee member, lecturer and examiner on the Advanced Neuroimaging MSc Programme at the Institute of Neurology, University College London.

Mr Parag Sayal


Mr Parag Sayal is a Consultant Neurosurgeon and is the Clinical Lead at the world renowned "National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square”. He has dual expertise in Neurosurgical and Orthopaedic spinal surgical conditions / procedures and performs the entire spectrum of simple and complex spinal surgery , including minimally invasive surgery and Robotic assisted spine surgery and also endoscopic skull base surgery.


He is an expert in the management of CSF leaks and many uncommon spinal conditions such as XLH / MPS / Tarlov cysts / Superficial siderosis / Spinal cord tumours. He has published over 50 scientific research papers and is the Course director for the renowned “Queen square review course” and he is widely acknowledged for his efforts in delivering Neurosurgical education / training using the latest Simulation technology and lectures.
